We start this section with a
number of elegant Shakespere stage depictions as published by Tallis
in 1852. Where specific actors are named they were engraved from
contemporary daguerreotypes (early photographs) - excluding such as
that of Garrick who had been drawn by Hogarth. The first named prints
are of that type, the second group is of scenes from the plays where
the actors are not named. The commentary on the plays was by
Halliwell. Later, similar engravings were done in 1858 in America so
we have used the later date for the prints. Each print is exquisitely
engraved and is enhanced by a splendid and unique ornamental border.
They are all hand coloured and mounted. |
