, ancient - the famous
cartographic treasure
"Geographia Sacra" by Ortelius. This truly rare map was
printed on two joined pieces of paper and time has taken its toll of
this -expert repairs do not completely hide some loss where the
join became separated. Ask for the set of scans - one is above but
there are 2 others. Only
200 were printed and 140 exist in complete atlases so there can be no
more than 60 possible owners of this princely rarity if all survived! |

Here are some superb genuine original sporting cartoons -
original lithographs from Vanity Fair. These are photographed in their old oak
frames with glass in situ so you will have to make allowances for the photo
quality.
  These
and many others on our Sport & Humour page -
Sport & Humour We
have a series of large
English county maps from the period 1858 to 1863, mostly from the Weekly
Dispatch Atlas. These inexpensive and extravagantly detailed maps are
recommended to Family History researchers as every tiny hamlet is shown -

Above you will see our catalogue items BS 245 and BW 583, typical
prints from a 1779 copper plate as it appeared in The Modern Universal British Traveller.

They will be found on each of our lists of topographical prints and are
realistically priced. Some of them have been hand coloured.

One map of set AM 173 described below

1862 |
United
States - Civil
War
set
of 3 maps
from The Weekly Dispatch Atlas published between October and
December 1862. Full sets of 3 are comparatively rare. These show
the Seat of War in Virginia [2 maps] and Virginia and Maryland
on another. Limited amount of original colouring. The maps
measure 330x420 mm each. This paper is notoriously fragile so
margins have been rebound at the rear in conservation tape. Some
corners clipped - outside the image area and one has a yellowish
stain at left margin extending fractionally into the map area at
one point. However, these are hardly ever found in very fine
condition and when they do a set goes for about $700. Our
sterling price converts to about a third of that. |
