European Maps

Europe is probably the most extensively mapped continent and maps have been produced to be sold commercially for several centuries. Consequently maps of high accuracy have been available to the moderately well off for over 250 years. Holland and Germany had extensive map printers in organized operation early in the 18th Century ; every little change in boundaries has been faithfully recorded and what an extraordinary story they tell!

Sizes are all in millimetres. Mounted Coloured means mounted and coloured. Unmounted Coloured means unmounted but coloured. Please ask for scans - we cannot show so many images on this page.

EU 111	1806	Belgium but described as "Netherlands from the Best Authorities". This copper engraved map shows a whole chapter of European history being written. It shows Hainault and Flanders divided between France and Austria, an undivided Luxemburg, a Dutch and Austrian Brabant and even a small Dutch Flanders. The Kingdom of Belgium was yet to arrive.
