This fascinating group offers
you an outstanding range of beautiful antique fashion prints,
hand-coloured and mounted, with mount decoration in many cases.
Antique fashion is a major
specialty and so our prices are exceptionally keen. You may see similar
material on offer on the Web, (but hardly ever mounted/matted), at about
2 to 3 times our prices!
We can email scans of any
fashion print on request as it is not possible to have all of the images
available on the web because it would make pages download very slowly.
|
Sizes
are all in millimetres.
|
|
|
Sizes of the prints, which
are all mounted,
are to be taken as approximate and as a guide to dimensions.
Plates from the Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine and the
various French fashion magazines of the 19th Century are
normally in the original Victorian era hand-colouring. Others
are mostly later professional hand-colouring or were produced
by lithography, originally coloured or by subsequent hand
colouring.

| The
following lithographs are from Racinet's Histoire le
Costume 1886 edition. All are offered mounted. Most
of the prints are from the stone, direct drawn. Some by
Urabietta (Daniel Vierge) the father of modern illustration.
The quality is unbelievably high. No better work could be done
with our modern technology. The printers, Didot & Cie.
were a dynasty of fine printers, in 1886 already 100 years old
and the publishers of the earlier edition of Racinet (quaint
but not of this standard). Remember
- all purchases over £20 come with a free Edwardian fashion
print. |

La
Mode Pratique. This large and appealing print should sell on
sight - our description will not do it justice. A very charming
young lady sits on a stool in a demure pose wearing a costume
based on a Louis XV mode. This etching has some tasteful old
hand colouring. A large show piece. |
